Message from the Knights President
As many of you will already know, due to concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID19, steps have been taken by health officials and municipalities to mitigate the potential transmission of the virus in large public gatherings.
Pursuant to those initiatives, Hockey Canada announced Thursday, March 12 the cancellation of all sanctioned events governed by that organization. The cancellation affects all tournaments, playoffs, and regular season games at all levels of minor hockey in Canada.
Following that announcement, Hockey Alberta and Hockey Edmonton have confirmed that the balance of the 2019/2020 hockey season will be cancelled in order to protect the health of our players and families. The cancellations also affect sanctioned tournaments, which includes our annual Spring on Ice tournament scheduled for the end of March.
Although it is with great disappointment that our hockey season has ended abruptly, KC Southside Knights supports the decisions of our governing bodies to cancel all hockey events, including our annual Spring on Ice tournament and all playoff games.
First and foremost, our organization is committed to protecting the health of all our players and members regardless of the nature of these threats. The novel coronavirus has proven to be both highly contagious and deadly in areas where large outbreaks have occurred. Therefore, our organization is fully supportive of cancelling the balance of the hockey season.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for what was otherwise a great hockey season. I would also like to thank the coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, and other volunteers who have contributed to making the season both enriching and rewarding for all players.
John Putters, President
